Belvoir Castle Opens New Animal Park at The Retail Village
Belvoir Castle is welcoming a new animal park, home to donkeys, pigs, goats, cows, and sheep, which is set to open later this month. Situated behind the Belvoir Retail Village at the base of the Regency castle, visitors can explore the park from Saturday, 19th October, and enjoy hands-on experiences with the smaller animals.
The park will feature a variety of animals, including a family of goats, a pair of rescue donkeys, lambs born on the Belvoir Estate, as well as chickens and geese. Families will have the opportunity to feed the animals and learn about them through dedicated information boards.
Shorthorn cows and calves, bred on the estate, have also found their place at the park, while smaller animals like guinea pigs and rabbits are settling into their freshly prepared pens.
A dedicated team of experts is ensuring the animals receive the highest standard of care and attention, and the park has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate the diverse needs of each species.
Rebecca Vernon, who works on the farm at Belvoir Castle, has been instrumental in setting up the new animal park. She said, “Offering our visitors the chance to interact closely with these wonderful animals and feed them will provide a delightful new experience for guests enjoying a day out at Belvoir Castle.
“Our animals have so much character, and we’ve quickly formed strong bonds with them. It’s been a privilege to settle them into their new home. Some of our new arrivals have had a challenging start in life, and we feel fortunate to be able to care for them and ensure their happiness here. For example, one of our lambs, whom we’ve named Dobby, was found alone in a field. Despite our efforts to reunite him with his mother, he wasn’t accepted back, which can sometimes happen. Freya, a member of our team, has since hand-reared Dobby, ensuring his every need is met, and it’s wonderful to see how well he’s thriving.”
