Castlehill’s Premier Attractions Shine at Thistle Awards with Seven Nominations

In a remarkable acknowledgment of excellence, three leading visitor attractions situated on Castlehill at the head of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile have been shortlisted for the prestigious regional Thistle Awards. Camera Obscura & World of Illusions, The Scotch Whisky Experience, and The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo collectively boast seven nominations, highlighting Castlehill as a beacon of exceptional tourism and cultural offerings.

Camera Obscura & World of Illusions has earned three nominations, recognized for its commitment to Inclusive Tourism, proactive Climate Action, and excellence as a Tourism & Hospitality Employer. This unique attraction continues to captivate visitors with its interactive exhibits and illusions, providing an inclusive and environmentally conscious experience.

The Scotch Whisky Experience, celebrated for its immersive whisky tours and tastings, has garnered accolades in three categories. The Amber Restaurant at The Scotch Whisky Experience is up for the Best Eating Experience, reflecting its high-quality Scottish cuisine perfectly paired with exceptional whiskies. The attraction is also a contender for Best Visitor Attraction, celebrating the guided visitor experience including its new addition, “The Spirit of Whisky”. Additionally, Annika Schneider, a dynamic young team member, has been nominated for the Rising Star Award, highlighting her significant contributions to the business and industry as a whole.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, renowned globally for its spectacular performances featuring military bands and cultural performers, has been shortlisted for the Outstanding Cultural Event or Festival. This nomination recognizes the Tattoo’s role in promoting Scottish heritage and its impact on cultural tourism.

The Thistle Awards, often referred to as Scotland’s tourism industry’s Oscars, celebrate the highest standards of excellence in the sector. The winners will be announced at the upcoming gala event in Edinburgh on 26 September.
